BSCL Plans to launch Bangabandhu Satellite-2 in 5 years

Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) is working on Bangabandhu Satellite-2 to further the benefits of Bangabandhu Satellite-1 in the IT sector. Within the next 2 to 3 years, the work of making Bangabandhu Satellite 2 will be completed, said the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Company Dr. Shah Jahan Mahmud. State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak said that several countries have shown interest in the construction of Bangabandhu Satellite-2. All proposals are currently being scrutinized. Bangabandhu Satellite-2 will be launched into space within the next 5 years.

The matter was disclosed in the welcome speech at the 6th anniversary celebration of the launch of Bangabandhu Satellite-1 at the Dhaka Club on Sunday in the evening.

While speaking online, as the Chief Guest from Cox's Bazar, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Hasan Mahmud said, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, our Victory flag has been flying today in water, land and space. May this flag fly forever. We can move forward on an equal footing with the developed countries by connecting the country with the fourth industrial revolution.

While speaking as a special guest State Minister Palak said, 'Until now the income of Bangabandhu satellite is about 150 crore taka. The government is working to increase it further.'

He said that with the survival of Bangabandhu's two daughters, Bangabandhu's dream of building a golden Bangla has survived. Today we are on the verge of economic liberation. Cultural liberation movement has also been started.  

Palak also said that the government now wants to digitize the house-to-house cable connections. In the future, the Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh wants to provide new services to television viewers starting from video on demand. ATCO and COAB will arrange investment in this field. Based on the intelligence information, a strict operation will be started in a few days to close the set-top box. We want to increase revenue through technology with transparency.

Dr. Shahjahan Mahmud while speaking as the president of the event said, this satellite will be used in the protection of public resources, inland river and tributary wetlands, sea and river level flow nature and water quality analysis, monitoring and surveillance of water resources, land research, meteorological research, blue economy, defense system and so on.

He said, C band of Bangabandhu 1 satellite is almost at the end. About 27 billion taka are spent on satellites. Through this, along with all the channels of the country, 26 foreign channels are now being broadcast through Bangabandhu Satellite 1. In 4 and a half to 5 quarter years the income is generated in the commercial activities of the year. It's so well launched and managed, I think even if the satellite has a 15-year life, it will live up to 18 years. We will be able to finance it ourselves when the replacement work starts in the next three to four months.

Post and Telecommunication Secretary Abu Hena Morshed Zaman, BTRC Chairman Engineer Mohiuddin Ahmed, ATCO Senior Vice President Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury were present among others on the occasion.
